Electron probe microanalysis of phase formation in prototypical corium sample

corium sample
Elemental maps of a synthetic corium sample reveal the presence of Cr2O3, (U, Zr) O2, and SiO2-type phases with numerous impurities. Created at Argonne National Laboratory (USA), the sample has been distributed to various laboratories around the world for the purpose of developing reliable analytical techniques to be applied to actual specimens in order to advance corium studies and improve the safety of existing and future nuclear reactors.

Recorded on a SX 100-R Shielded EPMA at Idaho National Laboratory (INL), USA.
